Money Management
Some people have trouble managing their finances. They may need assistance due to poor vision, occasional forgetfulness, inability to write or other limitations.
We can offer assistance from a fully trained and bonded volunteer to help people develop a budget, write checks, balance their checkbooks, sort mail and work with banks and creditors. Some volunteers will serve as Representative Payees. Call us if you think this service would help you or your elderly family member. Don’t let someone’s independence be threatened by a problem with financial management.
Widowhood Support Group
Every Thursday for the past several years, Montachusett Home Care Corporation has held a support group for recent widows or widowers. The group is facilitated by a Case Manager with a Master’s degree in counseling and a specialization in grief counseling. Every week the group provides comfort and reassurance to seniors and focuses on the challenges faced by the widow/widower coping with loss.
Prescription Advantage
Massachusetts is the first state in the nation to offer elders a drug insurance program. Universal coverage is provided for all elders. It is an insurance program, not an entitlement program, with premiums, co-payments and an annual deductible. For low-income elders, the premiums and deductibles are waived. Your annual income influences the amount of the premium. Coverage is unlimited. Applications and information are available at Montachusett Home Care Corporation.
Little Necessities
For elderly women with limited incomes, Montachusett Home Care Corporation may be able to assist with obtaining a one time needed good or service which the person is unable to afford or obtain through other means. A private foundation has made some funds available to help needy elders in this fashion.
